The Dutch classifier CWTS Leiden announced for the first time the CWTS Leiden Open Edition classification for the year 2024, which included 1506 major universities around the world, which are the same universities included in the traditional classification.
Prof. Dr. Nasser Mandour, President of Suez Canal University, indicated that the results of the classification resulted in Suez Canal University achieving remarkable progress in the classification, as the university advanced in the overall sciences in terms of scientific impact of research by 157 ranks compared to the traditional version of the classification and obtained the rank 1248 globally and 39 Africa.
Prof. Dr. Nasser Mandour continued, “The university advanced 21 ranks in the overall sciences in terms of international cooperation and open access publishing and obtained the 1080th global rank and 35th in Africa, with 86.2% of the total research published by Suez Canal University researchers being the result of international cooperation.
The university president added that this classification shows the university’s efforts to raise the research and academic level with the aim of achieving a high level of excellence and regional and international leadership for its researchers and their keenness to publish in reputable international scientific journals and international cooperation with various universities around the world.
It also emphasizes the distinguished efforts of the state in providing free publishing through the Knowledge Bank and enabling browsing of many international publishing houses for Egyptian researchers.
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Zaghloul, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, pointed out that the most important feature of this classification is that it relies on bibliographic data from the Open Alex database and relies partially on data from the Research Organization Register (ROR), unlike the traditional classification that relies only on bibliographic data from the Web of Science database.
