Prof. Dr. Nasser Mandour, President of Suez Canal University, explained that the British QS classification organization announced on Wednesday, 18 October, 2023, the QS Arab Classification 2024, noting that the classification included 223 universities from 18 Arab countries. Suez Canal University keep its appearance among the top 100 Arab universities, ranking 21st in the region, and 15th locally out of 36 Egyptian universities.
The university president added that the annual QS ranking of universities highlights the leading universities in this part of the world, which was published for the first time in 2014 in the Arab region.
While Professor Dr. Mohamed Saad Zaghloul, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, indicated that the methodology of this ranking was developed with the aim of reflecting the challenges and priorities identified for institutions in the region, based on 10 main indicators, which are:
Academic reputation (30%), Employer reputation (20%), Faculty-student ratio (15%), International research network (10%), Web influence (5%), Percentage of PhDs (5%), citations per research paper (5%), papers per faculty member (5%), proportion of international faculty (2.5%), and proportion of international students (2.5%).
Prof. Dr. Sameh Saad, Director of the University’s International Cooperation Office, confirmed that Suez Canal University has demonstrated the research excellence of its scientists and notable international cooperation through several indicators in the classification.
Suez Canal University ranked third locally (39 Arabs) in the index of citation rate per research paper. This index is calculated using data from Scopus, and assesses the number of citations per published paper, reflecting the impact of each institution’s research. The university also ranked ninth among Egyptian universities
(37 Arabs) in the International Research Network Index, and this index indicates the diversity of the institution’s research cooperation with other institutions in different locations of the world.
While Dr. Elham Al-Khawas, Director of the Classification Unit at the International Cooperation Office, indicated that Suez Canal University ranked fifth locally in the index of the percentage of international faculty members. It also distinguished itself and ranked ninth among Egyptian universities in indicators: the ratio of faculty members to students (78 Arabs), and the percentage of those holding a doctorate degree. Suez Canal University also ranked 15th among Egyptians (71st among Arabs) in the Web Impact Index, which reflects the presence of universities online, which is an indication of its commitment to international participation and communication.
